Your browser doesn't support speech playback. Try a recent version of Chrome, Edge or Safari, or use the SayText app instead.
This page uses the voices built into your device. It can't save an audio file, because browser voices can't be recorded to disk. To download MP3s, work with natural AI voices, read longer texts and publish podcasts, use the SayText app.

Why convert text to speech?

Reading isn't always the practical option. Listening to a long report on the way to work, going over study notes while walking, or hearing how your own writing actually sounds — all of these let you take in the same content with far less effort. Text to speech does exactly that: it turns words on a screen into audio you can listen to.

Students and professionals

Review notes, articles and reports by listening. Rest your eyes while going through the same material a second time.

Content creators

Generate voiceovers for videos, shorts and podcasts. No microphone, no recording session, no retakes.

Writers and editors

Hear your draft read back. Your ear catches the clumsy sentence and the repeated word that your eye skipped over.

How it works

Frequently asked questions

Is this text to speech tool free?
Yes. The tool on this page is completely free and needs no account. It uses your own device's speech engine, so there is no cost on either side. Natural AI voices and MP3 downloads are offered in the SayText app, which also has a free tier.
Can I download the audio as an MP3?
Not from this page. Browser speech engines only play through your speakers — they don't produce a file. That's a technical limit, not a restriction we added. To create an MP3 you need the SayText app, where you can download, share or add the audio to a video.
Which languages are supported?
On this page, whichever languages your device has voices installed for. Most Android, Windows and macOS devices ship with several. The voice list above shows what's available to you. The SayText app works independently of your device and supports a wider range of languages with more natural results.
How much text can I convert at once?
Up to 2,000 characters per go on this page. The limit keeps the page fast and avoids the cut-offs browsers cause on very long passages. For longer texts, use the app.
Is my text stored anywhere?
No. Text entered on this page is never sent to us and never stored on any server. Speech generation happens entirely inside your own device, and the text disappears when you close the page.
What is SayText Radio?
SayText Radio is a public feed where users publish the audio they've created. You set up a publisher profile, title your broadcasts and share the link anywhere. You can remove your broadcasts whenever you want.
